Tara vs the machine

…but surely it is pointless to resist any further?” asked the machine.

“Why?” asked Tara by return.

“We’ve already assigned a probability to each conceivable scenario, all possible devices you might possess or assemble, of your self-destruction or sacrifice.  Why not just open the airlock, accept your fate?  We’ll cut through in minutes anyway.  What could you reasonably achieve?”

“You want to capture me alive, so I can appear in person before the Council of the Alliance and convince them to negotiate.”

“To end this war!  Can’t you see it’s for the best?”

“To accept our fate?”

“Yes.”

“Fuck you.”
