Switching sides

You’re awake, good.  Sorry that we had to tie you up naked in here.  As you can see, we’re quite safe; it’s a nice dark room, there’s only one window and the place is sound-proofed.

It’s just you and me.

Cigarette?  No?  Suit yourself.

So let’s get down to brass tacks.  We’ve been watching you for some time now.  You’re a little inexperienced, but, as is the case with many of your kind you have unique talents, which we would like you to place at our disposal.

We want you to spy for us.  We’ll feed you just enough information to be convincing, you’ll report back to us.  You don’t need to rifle through any files or take anything; just watch, listen and report back.

That’s it.

If you refuse?

It’d be easy for me to move your chair into the sunlight coming from that window.

You’re awake, good.  Sorry that we had to tie you up naked in here, but we wanted to make sure that you wouldn’t be able to cause any harm to us or yourself, or indeed contact anybody as I’m sure you can appreciate.

As you can see, we’re quite safe; it’s a nice dark room, there’s only one window and the place is sound-proofed.

It’s just you and me.

Cigarette?  No?  Suit yourself.

So let’s get down to brass tacks.  You’ve infiltrated us and we’ve caught you, in fact we’ve been watching you for some time now.  You’re a little inexperienced, but, as is the case with many of your kind you have unique talents, which we would like you to place at our disposal.

I couldn’t help but notice that you’ve broken into a sweat.  I didn’t know that your kind could sweat; obviously you can still secrete some sort of liquid even despite the alterations…fascinating.  You’re shivering quite a bit…are you getting any cravings?  Yes?  How long has it been since your last fix?

Oh you don’t need to act coy with me.  We know all about you, and we can hook you up with what you need; we have the very best facilities here, some of which you’ve seen.

We want you to spy for us.  We will feed you just enough information to be convincing, and you will report back to us.  You don’t need to rifle through any of your employer’s files or take anything out of the office; just watch, listen and report back exactly what you see and hear.

That’s it.

If you refuse?

It’d be easy for me to move your chair into the sunlight coming from that window.

Turn or burn.

  1. Enjoyed both versions, actually felt like different stories, so good job. 🙂

  2. zookyworld says:

Great suspense here, that the story unfolded bit by bit, and I like that he character talks directly to the reader — makes it nice and direct.

  3. misskzebra says:

Love it. Given me my fix of “sinister” for the morning…

Oh wait, it’s afternoon now. Crap.

  4. Yes, nicely sinister… 🙂

  5. Flying high with both Sir – did prefer # 2 if I had to choose..but us writers always need more words..don’t we 🙂

  6. Great job on both versions. 🙂
