I liked this post by Karen over at ThoughtCatalogue, particularly idea numbers 1, 2, 3, 5, 12, 21 and 22 (in summary; make a happy music playlist, get outside, clear out things which clutter your life, eat fruit).
Number 9 was a good ‘un as well, especially for me, because this is an exercise which will benefit me as a writer. Exactly what makes my favourite books so great? I could break them down, analyse them and then write reviews of them on my blog!
Here are some other ideas that can make you happy instantly: –
Stand in front of a mirror, look yourself in the eye and say the following words out loud with as much viciousness as possible: “smile you f**king c**t!”. Seriously – it works!
When you are in the bathroom, take your phone with you and play your favourite radio station or music; dance around like a child, throw some shapes, pose in front of the mirror.
Exercise. Can’t afford gym or martial arts? Knees painful when running on hard pavements? Go for walks. In three minutes do as many of these as you feel like: press-ups, leg raises, sit-ups (but don’t let your back touch the floor), planks, side-planks, squat raises (or hold a horse stance for a minute).
Make a bucket list, a to do list of things you want to do and how you’re going to make them happen. Keep the promises you make to yourself.
Go to a park. Just walk around for a while; breathe, relax, listen to the birds singing, soak up all that nature.
Watch some comedy. No, I’m not talking about a comedian making some dry observations, or sitcoms with predictable jokes. Watch something that actually makes you laugh; personally I think the more outrageous it is the better!
What do you do to cheer yourself up?
