Creative writing prompt #5 – I am not there

Photo of Wadden sea and a silhouette of the Maria church in Wierum

For this prompt, I’m required to use the last line of a poem I like to be the first line of my own poem.  I don’t read poetry usually, but using StumbleUpon I found ‘Do not stand at my grave and weep’ by Mary Elizabeth Frye and I liked that one, so I shall use the last line of that poem.

I am not there. I did not die
I was not there in the first place
You never heard my inner voice
Nor heard the song of my soul
Now I am free and I rejoice
For I no longer seek control

Far beyond the walls of my doubt
Away and out of life’s great race
Now adrift on the winds of time
Though in truth you knew me not
Your light enriched my heart and mind
Through you I will not be forgot
